The journey to Shepherd's Harvest is a very personal one. It began several years ago after I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. After some research and many bouts of various medications, I decided to avoid medication and try to use organic and all-natural foods and body products--but they were expensive and/or hard to find! So, I started making and growing much of what I needed to keep myself healthy and pain-free.
In 2009 Shepherd's Harvest started as a home canning and pickling business, selling through farm stores to the eastern Connecticut community. I spent some time working on organic vegetable and dairy farms, and eventually started making my own goat milk soap. This blossomed into a business, along with shampoo bars, body butter that helps with any number of skin conditions, an extremely effective deodorant (with no aluminum), and an insect repellent which seems to work ridiculously well! In June 2012, I decided to share the products online and locally at Farmer's Markets.
My personal journey also included a little bit of faith. On every Shepherd's Harvest package you will see the message, "I am the Good Shepherd...I lay down my life for the sheep." This is from the Bible, John 10:14. It reflects my belief that God loves each one of us passionately and wants us to be whole in every way, to the point of even laying down his life.
My personal mission is to provide you, my friends, with high quality products with minimal packaging and fuss; for a reasonable price. Hope you enjoy all that Shepherd's Harvest has to offer!
Peace and love,
In July 2015, I developed a rare, debilitating condition known as Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). GBS is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system, resulting in weakness and paralysis, and typically strikes healthy individuals (often men!) in their 30's and 40's (I am in my 50's!). As of late 2016, I am recovering from two bouts with GBS and able to continue to design products for Shepherd's Harvest. With the help of customers, family, and friends, Shepherd's Harvest products continue to be available at select shops and farmer's markets locally in Eastern Connecticut and here online. Thank you very much for your prayers as I continue the healing process, and a special thanks to those who believe in our business and have made it possible for us to continue to make our incredible products available!
NOTE: Shepherd's Harvest only purchases Palm Oil from members of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
